More business expansion announced by Port of Sunnyside
Keeping with their goal to further enhance Sunnyside’s economic base, the Port of Sunnyside Commissioners approved the sale of 1.2 acres of Golob Landing property this past Wednesday, December 6, 2017, according to Executive Director, Jay Hester.
“I’m very excited with the planned development which is the newest at Golob Landing since YV Tech in 2014. I believe it could be what we are looking for to spark future development at this location.” said Hester.
The $90,000 property purchase by The Eye Center and planned construction will help to expand professional services for four long-time area businesses.
The plan is for two new buildings to be constructed at Golob Landing east of Swofford & Halma Clinic on Reith Way. Abeyta Nelson Injury Law will occupy one of the new buildings while the second building will house The Eye Center, Sunnyside Optical and Thompson Audiology.
The Eye Center has served Central Washington from Yakima since 1986 and has recently maintained a presence in Sunnyside working out of Sunnyside Optical three days-a-week. The new building will improve efficiencies and broaden services to five days-a-week in Sunnyside eliminating travel to Yakima for many patients. Sunnyside Optical will continue their high-quality care in the new expanded location as will Thompson Audiology. Abeyta Nelson Injury Law with offices in Yakima, Sunnyside and Ellensburg will relocate the Sunnyside offices to their new building upon completion.
This latest announcement comes on the heels of several other Port successes that include Co Dinn Cellars and Varietal Brewing locating in downtown Sunnyside and the most recent sale of 25 acres of Port property to house Ostrom’s Mushroom Farms at Duffy and Midvale Roads in Sunnyside. The $25 million Ostrom project will employ 200 employees and create a big boost to the local economy.
