The lagoon dredging project involved the removal, dewatering, and disposal of approximately 3,300 dry tons of accumulated pond solids (sludge) from Lagoon 2/3 at the Port of Sunnyside Wastewater Treatment Plant. Additionally, all aerators and the lagoon baffle curtain were dismantled and demolished.
The Port held a bid opening on April 17, 2024, receiving four proposals, with American Process Group selected as the winning bidder. Crews worked around the clock, five days a week, to complete the project by the first week of July. A total of 3,314.43 dry tons of sludge were successfully removed, with the final contract amount totaling $2,747,565.52.
This was the first cleaning of the lagoon since its 1995 remodeling, when Lagoon 2 and Lagoon 3 were combined into the current Lagoon 2/3.
